Rue Saint-Laurent 36-38, 1000 Brussels
In a city overflowing with coffee bars, it takes courage to do something radically different. Hidden in the former lobby of the iconic record label Play It Again Sam, MOK Studio isn’t just another café — it’s a listening bar where coffee and music share the spotlight. From the moment you step inside, you feel it: this is not about noise, it’s about nuance.
The setting
The heart of the space is impossible to miss: a majestic vintage Altec Lansing A5 soundsystem — originally designed for cinemas — proudly positioned in front of the bar. All seating faces the speakers, like a movie theatre without a screen. Instead of visuals, you get vinyl. Pure, warm, immersive sound.
The custom-made furniture, warm tones and minimalist aesthetic create a calm, almost meditative atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where time slows down. A rare find in the bustling centre of Brussels.
The taste
Coffee here is taken seriously. Expect high-end beans served as meticulous hand brews or pulled on a Strietman espresso machine — a piece of craftsmanship in itself.
There’s also tea from Postcard Teas in London, and a signature one-size milky drink that floats perfectly between a cappuccino and a flat white. Balanced, creamy, comforting.
And on the last Sunday of every month? Curated listening events, accompanied by natural wine. A beautiful twist that makes this space even more unique.
The experience
This is where MOK Studio truly shines. The listening experience is central, yet never dogmatic. Silence is appreciated — but conversation isn’t forbidden.
You can come here to:
escape the city’s chaos
read a book in peace
work quietly (if you enjoy music as your background companion)
simply sit and absorb sound
It’s ideal for those who find traditional coffee bars too loud, too hectic, too distracted. Here, calm and quality lead the way.
The verdict: 4.5 out of 5 spoons (🍴🍴🍴🍴½)
“A rare sanctuary where exceptional coffee meets cinematic sound.”
Atmosphere: Minimalist, intimate, immersive
Drinks: High-end brews with character
Service: Relaxed, knowledgeable, understated
Value: A premium experience worth every sip
Perfect for: Music lovers, creative minds, and anyone needing a pause
Final bite
MOK Studio is more than a coffee stop — it’s a sensory reset. A unique concept housed in a historic music landmark, offering one of Brussels’ most distinctive café experiences.
If you’re looking to escape the city rush without leaving the city — this is your place.
Definitely worth returning.
Let’s taste!
