In Brussels’ thriving specialty coffee scene, a few names stand out for their consistency and dedication to the craft. Wide Awake is one of them. What started as a roastery has grown into a respected coffee brand with three distinct cafés across the city, each with its own rhythm, yet all sharing the same philosophy: exceptional coffee, prepared with precision and passion.
Whether you find yourself near Sainte-Catherine, Flagey or Dansaert, stepping into Wide Awake always promises one thing — a cup of coffee crafted down to the smallest detail.
The setting
Each Wide Awake location offers its own atmosphere.
St Catherine, the flagship café in the heart of Brussels, combines a vibrant city energy with a relaxed café environment. It’s the perfect stop while exploring the historic centre, offering not only coffee but also fresh pastries and lunch options.
At Flagey, things move a little faster. This charming corner espresso bar captures the rhythm of Ixelles: lively, contemporary, and focused on espresso done right. Here you can explore both classic and world-class espresso options, served with the quiet confidence of true specialists.
Meanwhile, Dansaert offers a slower experience. Once the original roastery, the space was transformed into a brew bar in 2022. It’s more intimate and calm — ideal for enjoying hand brews or espresso in a relaxed environment where coffee becomes the main event.
Despite their differences, all three locations share the same design language: clean lines, thoughtful details and a welcoming atmosphere where coffee lovers instantly feel at home.
The taste
Coffee at Wide Awake is nothing short of outstanding.
Each cup is prepared with remarkable precision, often accompanied by a small glass of water — a simple detail that shows their respect for the tasting experience.
Their beans are roasted in Brussels using a Loring S35 roaster, following a data-driven approach that focuses on clarity of flavour and consistency. After roasting, beans are color-sorted and carefully monitored through an advanced quality control process.
The result?Coffees that are clean, expressive and full of character, highlighting the unique aromatic potential of each origin.
You can taste these beans as espresso or hand brew, paired with delicious pastries and cookies that make the experience even more enjoyable.
And if you fall in love with the coffee (which is very likely), you can buy the beans to take home — a perfect way to extend the experience beyond the café.
The experience
What makes Wide Awake special is the balance between technical excellence and relaxed hospitality.
The team is deeply knowledgeable about coffee, yet the atmosphere never feels intimidating. Instead, it invites curiosity and discovery.
Wide Awake also works closely with cafés, restaurants and offices across Europe through long-term partnerships, offering training, equipment and tailored advice. It’s clear that this is more than just a café brand — it’s a community built around specialty coffee.
Whether you come for a quick espresso or a slow hand brew, the experience always feels carefully crafted but effortlessly enjoyable.
